Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed on Wednesday a law on the suspension of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty).

The relevant document, passed by the Belarusian parliament in early May, was published on the government's portal.

The CFE treaty was signed in 1990 and went into effect in 1992 by representatives of 16 NATO members and six Warsaw Pact Organization, a military bloc that existed during the Cold War.

It sets a cap on five types of arms and military equipment — battle tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery, strike aircraft, and attack helicopters. -
