Consumer inflation annually increases 3.93% in March, slowing its pace from 4.5% year on year gain in February.

Brazil's consumer inflation slowed annually and monthly in March, according to figures released Wednesday.

Consumer inflation annually increased 3.93% in March, slowing its pace from a 4.5% year-on-year gain recorded in February.

The figure, in addition, managed to come in lower than market estimates of 4.01%.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 0.16% in March, also decelerating from a 0.83% increase in February.

The figure was also lower than market expectations of a 0.25% month-on-month gain.

Prices in six of the nine groups of products and services increased in March, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said in a statement.

The largest monthly increase was recorded in food and beverages with a gain of 0.53%, followed by health and personal care at 0.43%. -
