Mexico has asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to expel Ecuador from the United Nations over a police raid on the Mexican Embassy in Quito on April 5, the Foreign Ministry announced Thursday.
During a press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said his government seeks to prevent future "authoritarian" acts such as the one Ecuador committed against Mexico's Embassy.Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena said that under the complaint, Mexico is asking the UN to suspend Ecuador's membership until its government issues a public apology for the raid, pays reparations for the damage caused and promises never to do it again.
